Martial artists make magic

Local martial arts dojo is producing talent.

The United Martial Arts Dojo Benoni did exceptionally well at the South African All Styles Martial Arts Championship, in Turffontein, on October 10 and 11, where a number of students all won their national colours in martial arts.

The team was led by shihan Aslam Mahomed, who is currently serving as the vice-president of United Martial Arts International and a 7th Dan black belt, and sensei Alfred Mofokeng (4th Dan black belt).

Both instructors have won South African titles in their respective divisions.

These students competed in the divisions of traditional kata, traditional weapons kata, musical creative forms, musical weapon forms, kumite, point fighting and continuous fighting.

The dojo’s Mahmood Mahomed and Ahmad Mahomed both won the ‘Champ of the Champs’ title which goes to the best all- rounder for all divisions.

“We are very proud of all our students’ national achievements,” said Mahomed.

Over 300 contestants participated at this national event which was hosted by United Martial Arts International and Tebbutt’s Academy.

This was one of the biggest tournaments held in South Africa this year for martial arts.

The dojo is situated at The Living Studio, in Woburn Avenue.
