Indians lose on enemy turf

Benoni Northerns Indians Baseball Club’s Major A team travelled to the Boksburg Stadium on Sunday, October 26, to take on their big rivals, Boksburg Cardinals, in the team’s second game of the Summer Ball season.

The team was coming off a 18-10 home win over Randburg Mets the week before and were hoping to achieve a repeat performance in Boksburg.

This was, however, not the case, as they suffered a 9-2 defeat on Sunday.

Major A head coach Ashley Scott said that too many fielding errors in the field cost the team.

“We went down early on in the game and were never really able to get back into it,” said Scott.

Despite the defeat, the coach took some positives from the game.

“Warren Hand pitched really well again and Chris le Roux stepped up and hit the ball pretty well; it was just our efforts in the fielding that let us down.”

The team will be hoping to bounce back strongly when they host Marks Park Mustangs, at home, on Sunday, November 2.
