Koll’s Chinese comeback
Benonian and elite triathlete Caroline Koll bounced back from a cycling accident, in March, to achieve a bronze medal finish at the ITU Long Distance World Series, in Weihai, China, recently.
The race took place over the double-Olympic distance, which is a 3km swim, 80km cycle and 20km run, in the beautiful seaside setting of Weihai, Shandong Province.
Koll missed out on most of the 2015 triathlon season, due to injuries sustained in the March cycling accident.
“It was great to be back,” she said.
“Conditions were a bit windy, which made the cycle leg a challenge, but otherwise they were good for racing.
“I exited the swim a few minutes behind the two leaders, Ewa Bugdol from Poland and Carina Brechters from Germany.
“We pretty much maintained our positions to the end.”
Bugdol won gold and Brechters claimed silver.
