‘Between these four lines nothing else matters’
A provisional 41-man squad of development rugby players has been selected after three weeks of Legends Cup action concluded at St Dunstan’s College on Saturday, September 3.
The players, selected from previously disadvantaged schools in the Valke Rugby Union’s region, will be cut down from this initial training squad to 25 players before they head out to represent the region at the South African Rugby Legends Association’s (SARLA) 2016 national Iqhawe Week for u-15 players.
Jaco Coetzer, project manager of the Rural Rugby Development Programme and SARLA’s Vuka Rugby head for the Valke region, said the conclusion of the Legends Cup, which extended from the Vuka League from 48 schools, is not the end of the road for this rugby development programme.
He thanked the players, coaches and sponsors who have helped make the project a success to this point.
Praising the players for making themselves available and for giving there all to rugby despite often tough and trying circumstances Coetzer said:
In between these four lines nothing else matters.”
The Etwatwa Eagles team emerged victorious with a score of 21-10 in the final against Tsakane Crusaders.
The Daveyton Vuthas won the third-fourth place play-off match 10-5 against Sebokeng Spears.
