New blood at Sunny Park

Sunny Park Equestrian Club, based in Benoni Small Farms, has boasted some wonderful results in equestrian competitions in recent years.

They have committed themselves to focusing on the development of younger riders in 2017 in order to grow the sport in Ekurhuleni.

The success of their endeavours was seen during the weekend of February 18 and February 19 at the first SANESA school equestrian competition held at Eaton Farm.

There were no fewer than five new little riders making their mark for their respective schools and being guided by their instructors Nicola Sime Riley and Christi Davis.

For a club that specialises mostly in showjumping, the youngsters strung in fantastic results in many other disciplines during the show.

Sunny Park’s results from the show:

• Primary School: Aiden Sime Nel (two first places in 1m show jumping, second place in 90cm showjumping); Hailey Strydom (two first places in 1.10m open showjumping and first place in open equitation level seven); Lexi McLaren (first place in equitation lead rein, second place in dressage lead rein), Jaimie Riley (second place in equitation lead rein); Kellen McLaren (fourth place in Prix Caprilli).

• High Schools: Jessica Vermaas (two first places in 1.10m showjumping); Liezl Olwage (sixth place in 90cm showjumping); Courtney De Kock (fourth place in 90cm show jumping); Tannith Johnson (fourth place in 1m showjumping) and Caitlin Horn (second place in 1.10m showjumping, first place in 1.20m showjumping and third place in 1.10m showjumping).
