Actonville downed by Duduza
After picking up their first victory in the Eastern Premier League against CBC Old Boys the previous weekend, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI were striving to keep that winning form going when they played Duduza at Willowmoore Park’s B-Field on November 26.
That winning result, however, was not to be mostly due to the efforts of Easterns player and former Knights and Lions batsman Tumelo Bodibe.
Imraan Manack who was skippering the side, won the morning toss and elected to bowl first.
Initially it seemed to be a good decision when Actonville’s opening bowlers Clayton August and Mekyle Pillay claimed the early wickets of the Duduza opening batsmen with 20 runs on the board.
Bodibe, however, showed his quality and took charge of the innings by smashing his way to a score of 115 runs from 111 deliveries (11 fours and five sixes).
He scored nearly 60 per cent of their runs as Duduza saw out their 50-over innings with a score of 199/9.
Wilber van Dyk (3/14 in five overs) and CJ van der Walt (2/39 in eight overs) were the best of the Actonville bowlers.
With the bat ASCC’s opening batsman Yusuf Bulbulia (71 runs from 110 balls) and Matthew Corin (50 runs from 71 deliveries) offered the best chance for Actonville to chase down the Duduza target, but when they were dismissed the ASCC tail did not wag.
They were disappointingly dismissed in the 48th over for 188 runs, just 11 runs short of the Duduza score.
Actonville will hope to return to winning ways when they host Springs Old Boys at Lords Cricket Grounds on December 3.
The first delivery is scheduled to be bowled at 10am.
