Little Giant gets big win at EFC 67

It was a fantastic night for the former Kids Haven resident.

The highly anticipated match-up between former Kids Haven resident Bokang ‘Little Giant’ Masunyane and England’s Coner Hignett took place at EFC 67 at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on March 10.

Masunyane was confident heading into the bout having won his first four clashes in the flyweight division and had the Carnival City crowd fully behind him.

His fifth fight exploded with aerial action.

The Little Giant advanced with his trademark barrage of aerial takedowns. This time, however, they were met by granite defence and Hignett answering with strikes.

Masunyane’s attack was slowed, but not stopped, and Hignett soon got taken to the canvas.

Masunyane began his brutal top control game by smothering Hignet throughout the first two rounds.

In the third round Masunyane attempted a striking attack, but quickly felt the superiority of the Englishman, and reverted to his preferred ground dominance, grinding out an enthralling unanimous decision win.

The City Times caught up with the Fight Fit Militia star to get his analysis of the bout and to find out what’s next for him in the EFC organisation.

“I wrestled him in all three rounds which was the game plan,” said Masunyane.

“I knew his stand-up skills were decent so I knew that my chances of winning would be greater if I wrestled him and took him down the to the ground the whole time.

“I was in trouble and I did what I had to do to win.

“What’s next for me?

“I’m waiting for a title shot after the fight between Nkazimulo ‘Zulu Boy’ Zulu and Marino ‘The Scorpion’ Cutendana at EFC 69.

“I know I will take that title win and beat either of them.

“It doesn’t bother me who I’m going to be fighting.

“Either of them can fight me – I’ll always be ready.”
