Old Bens let down by ‘poor decisions’ at Currin Park

The referee wasn’t the most popular person at Currin Park on Saturday.

In celebration of St Patrick’s Day, there was a festive vibe due to the Family Fun Day at Old Bens Football Club on March 17.

The results weren’t too festive for the club’s teams, though.

A late goal saw Old Bens Football Club’s Senior Super League XI suffer their first defeat of the 2018 season, going down 2-1 at Currin Park against a perennially tough opponent, Primrose’s Luso Africa.

Bens’ reserves were defeated 4-3 after leading 3-1, while the first team were left to rue some apparently bad decision-making from the officials.

Refentse Mphele scored the only goal for the Bens first team.

“It was a great game with good football played,” said coach Raymond Cloete.

“We were let down by some poor decisions by the referee which we weren’t happy about.

“We should have had two penalties.

“Besides that, the game was pleasant and the players got together after the game for a drink in good spirits.”

The loss sees Bens move into fourth position ahead of their next game against Boksburg away on March 24.
