The Arnold Classics Africa multi-sports festival was held at the Sandton Convention Centre recently.
This event hosted over 18 000 athletes in various sports.
Four kickboxers represented the United Martial Arts International Benoni Gym and claimed medals.
Ahmad Mahomed from the gym won three gold medals and one silver medal while Salaamah Mahomed won three gold medals.
Nazirah Hassan picked up a silver medal and Mahmood Mahomed scooped three gold medals.
In total, these four athletes won 11 medals and have been selected to participate at the World Martial Arts Organisation (WMO) World Championships to be held in Portugal in September.
“We are incredibly proud of our athletes who fought exceptionally well and really stood out at this championship,” said shihan Aslam Mahomed, chief instructor at the United Martial Arts Benoni Gym.
“All four athletes attained national colours at the championship.
“We wish them all the best in their preparations for the world championships in Portugal.”
