Both of Old Bens Football Club’s Senior Super League sides (the firsts and reserve XIs) find themselves in fourth position in their respective league standings.
The club’s reserves moved up to fourth in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super Reserve League with a 4-2 victory over Corinthians, who visited Currin Park on June 23.
It was their fourth straight win in the league.
Coach Raymond Cloete’s first team enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 victory over their Corinthians opponents on Saturday.
Themba Vilakazi was again on the score sheet for Bens while Nkululeko ‘Scooby’ Motha, Monde Mathebula and Sibusiso ‘Xavi’ Mkhwanazi also got goals for the Benonians.
It was a marked improvement for Corinthians who were thumped 9-1 by Bens in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.
Cloete’s team became the first side in the Super League competition to have scored 50 goals this season.
“It was a good game,” said the coach.
“We started a bit slow but got into the game eventually.
“We have been missing quite a lot of regulars in the team due to injury and other engagements, so I am happy with a winning result.
“We now have a tough fixture coming up against the league leaders Luso Africa away from home.”
