Donations made by local resident in the spirit of Madiba

The stars aligned for two children’s home.

Instead of a fancy restaurant dinner or getting shiny new jewellery for her birthday, Northmead resident and Good Samaritan Adele Steyn decided to throw a children’s party for the orphaned and vulnerable children of Huis Talita (Brakpan) and Huis Charis (Northmead) at Benoni Northerns Sports Club on July 26.

Steyn organised party packs and lunch for the children who spent the afternoon playing at the club.

She also arranged for her friends to bring donations of clothing and toys for the children.

At the same time, Richard Pretorius of Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) arrived at the club to handover an impressive collection of clothing and blankets gathered by the club’s runners (and general members) during BNAC’s Nelson Mandela Day Blanket Run on July 18.

The donations were to be handed over for distribution to less privileged by the Northfield Methodist Church.

To make life easier, the church decided that they would donate the collected goods to the two homes present at the club for Steyn’s birthday party.
