New Atlasville event runs smoothly

The much-discussed parkrun went off well on a chilly morning.

Following the resolution of a number of issues around the formation of the new Atlasville parkrun, which delayed the inaugural event by two weeks, the first parkrun was held in the neighbouring Boksburg suburb alongside the Atlas Spruit on the chilly morning of August 18.

The parkrun attracted 587 runners and walkers to its debut event with Benoni Northerns Athletic Club’s stellar speedster Bright Mikolongwe claiming the first position in a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds.

Melissa Jansen van Vuuren was the first woman parkrunner home in a time of 20 minutes and 59 seconds.
