Benoni equestrian centres raise awareness of AHS
With Tabard's sponsorship, the shows were a success.
Three Benoni stables/equestrian centres were host venues of the recent Tabard show series, which aimed to create awareness about African Horse Sickness (AHS).
The stables were Waterberry, Aintree SA and Leopard Creek, as well as the Boksburg-based Fairfield Stables.

“One of the most dreaded illnesses that horses and ponies can contract is African Horse Sickness (AHS),” said Julie Swartz, owner of Leopard Creek Equestrian Centre.
“The effect on the South African market and economy has been devastating.
“A recent presentation showed that South African horses are sold at 25 per cent of their full value, and South Africa’s chances of hosting any equestrian Olympics or important international competitions is at zero, as government needs to devise an executable plan to increase our ability to contain AHS.”
The shows consisted of fun classes, such as a fancy dress, the “hit and hurry” and cable stitch, as well as competition classes.
Tabard sponsored goodie bags, hampers and rosettes for all riders.
The Riders could compete for two titles within four competitions:
1) An individual Victor Ludorum per class, awarding the top achiever over all four qualifiers with the most points earned.
2) A category Victor Ludorum, where different levels of classes were ring-fenced, and where these riders could compete for overall cash prizes of R5 000, as well as Victor Ludorum medals for the individual class winners.
The Victor Ludorum winners of the three different categories were: Category A: Chanteze Blignaut, Category B: Michaela janse van Rensburg and Category C: Anushka Lovgren from Waterberry.
Individual Class winners were: Riaan van Rooyen from Waterberry Stables, Charlene Fisher and Jayden Steyn from Fairfield Stables, Michaela janse van Rensburg, from Leopard Creek and Anushka Lovgren, from Waterberry Stables.
