Profix cancelled
As the official media sponsor of the Profix Scaffolding Marathon 2020, the City Times team is as disappointed in the cancellation of the marathon, but obviously this is unavoidable.

Comment from Julie Dekker, Profix Scaffolding Marathon race organiser
“We have noted with concern that the number of positive Covid-19 cases in South Africa has continued to increase.
“In light of this, Benoni Northerns Athletics Club has taken the decision to cancel the Profix Scaffolding Marathon scheduled for April 26.
“The safety of our participants, marshals, volunteers, supporters and the general public is our utmost concern.
“As you know, the Presidency has announced a National State of Disaster in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
“While the prohibition on gatherings of more than 100 people is in place until April 16, based on the trajectory of the disease elsewhere in the world and the actions that the global community have had to take in an effort to curb this pandemic, we must be realistic that this could be extended. “Watching events unfolding globally, we can expect that things will worsen before they get better and that restrictions on gatherings will continue.

“We acknowledge the disappointment this decision will invoke for participants, volunteers, vendors, sponsors and other parties involved.
“We as a club share in your disappointment.
“While this has not been an easy decision to make, we must place the wellbeing of our participants and our community at the forefront of our decisions.
“There are three options if you have already entered 2020 Profix Scaffolding Marathon:
• You can get a refund within a defined period. Please note that this would exclude the transaction cost paid when you entered the race and will also carry an additional transaction cost. Details on the refund process will be communicated directly to entrants in due course. Please be patient in this regard.
• You can keep your entry for the same distance for the 2021 edition of the Profix Scaffolding Marathon (upgrades will be treated as a new entry with full payment).
• You can donate your entry fee money to the nominated event charities.
“We regret the disappointment and inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and compassion.
“We would like to thank the individuals and businesses that have supported Benoni Northerns Athletics Club with various aspects of organising and marketing the 2020 event.
“This includes our main sponsor, Profix Scaffolding, as well as the Benoni City Times, our suppliers and the sponsors of our water points.
“We look forward to staging an exceptional event in 2021.”
Comment from Lana O’Neill, editor, and media partners Benoni City Times
As the official media sponsor of the Profix Scaffolding Marathon 2020, the City Times team is as disappointed in the cancellation of the marathon, but obviously this is unavoidable.
“It has been a pleasure working with the organisers and they can rely on our full support when the marathon is back in all its glory next year.
“The Profix is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar and although Benoni is missing out this year, there is much to look forward to next year.”
