Breidyn Schaper loving life at Scarborough CC
Schaper’s stats read that he is at the top of the leaderboard with the most runs scored for batting in the club.
Former Rynfield resident Breidyn Schaper now resides in the UK after being awarded the opportunity not only to complete his matric at Scarborough College but to also attend training at the Joe Root Academy.
He will be afforded the opportunity to play for the Scarborough Cricket Club.
His family remains in Rynfield and were ecstatic to hear of Schaper’s news, which was also written about in a Scarborough newspaper called The Scarborough.
“It was very nice to be approached to do an article on me,” said Schaper.
“I wasn’t too worried or nervous about doing it, it was just a few questions and I really just enjoyed speaking about myself and the club. It was nice to be able to give back to club and community. We get lots of supporters coming out to watch us, so it was nice to be able to give an insight on what happens in the change room and my processes and what I am working on.”

The article stated: “The 19-year-old, who arrived from South Africa during pre-season, has slotted in at number three in Pat Roberts’ side, and Schaper admits back-to-back wins will help the side grow in confidence.”
Schaper left in October.
“My training has been going well. I have been working hard, sticking to plans and programmes, the basics,” he explained.
“I enjoy working hard on the small things because they all add up at the end of the day and help me to reach my end goals.
When asked what it feels like to now live in a different country, Schaper said: “Well, I haven’t been able to do much because of Covid, but seeing some of the country, going to London and school are definitely great. My most memorable moment so far is my first game playing at North Marine Road (North Marine Road Ground, formerly known as Queen’s, is a cricket ground in Scarborough, North Yorkshire), the experience of being in the stadium was really special.
“My matches are also going well. I am just trusting my processes and taking it one day at a time. It’s nice to see the different conditions we play under and a different side of another country.
“The weather hasn’t been too bad, which has been great for match days. You just get a different feel of the game and I am able to expand my game as well through all of this.”
Schaper’s stats read that he is at the top of the leaderboard with the most runs scored for batting in the club.
“He is already on target for 1 000 runs, which is a big deal in cricket for a season as he has already scored 540 runs. He is just doing so well and we are so proud,” said Janine Schaper, his mother.
