A new team joins the Northerns football family

Ages that are welcomed into the team range from four to six years old, with training taking place every Monday and Tuesday from 17:30 to 18:30 at John Barrable Hall.

A new age group has been added to the Benoni Northerns football roster recently.

They now welcome the Benoni Northerns u-6 league 1A. Coaches Tyron Meadon, Shaun Cleland and Wade Graham could not be more excited.

The team integrated into Northerns on April 1 this year.

“For a group of boys that have never played the sport and know nothing about the rules or the positions, they are determined and willing to learn,” said Meadon.

“I have never once expected these boys to win a game as they are new to the sport and I want them to enjoy it and have fun. All I hear from them after a game, win or lose, is that it was really fun. That’s all I could ask for from them at this age.”

The team started in the middle of the season due to a sudden increase in registrations of the age group leading to there now being four u-6 teams, splitting them into league 1A and 1B and then league 2A and 2B.

“They are determined at training and have recently fallen into their positions nicely, hence their last game was a 3-2 loss compared to previous games where the loss was greater,” he said.

“I am incredibly proud of each and every one of these boys regardless of results.”

Ages that are welcomed into the team range from four to six years old, with training taking place every Monday and Tuesday from 17:30 to 18:30 at John Barrable Hall.

“The season will end in the beginning of September and will re-open around February,” explained Meadon.

“There are about three to four games left and so far the boys have played four games, showing each and every game their improvement and dedication to the sport, this can be seen when looking at the results.”

The results so far are as follows:

• Lost 5-1 to Edenvale

• Lost 10-0 to Benoni Northerns B

• Lost 11-0 to Highlands Park

• Lost 3-2 to Rovers

“Parents interested in registering their children to give them a kickstart in the sport or to give them a friendlier and/or advanced experience in soccer can speak to any of the committee members at the grounds or register them for the new season next year around February,” he concluded.
