Benoni Indians fight for the wins

...and the results were:

Junior baseball took place on October 31 at their usual spot, Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds.

The results were:

• u-8: all the newbies in Benoni Tomahawks had much fun against Boksburg Cardinals playing friendlies.

• u-10: Benoni Cherokee lost to Boksburg Cardinals 27-25

• u-12: Benoni Cheyenne drew to Alex Badges 5-5 and Benoni Apaches lost to Palm Ridge 12-9

“Cheyenne had a rocky start, letting in five runs in the first inning,” said coach and Benoni Indians Junior chairperson Clifford White.

“They struggled through and managed to keep the runs at bay and clawed their way back to a 5-5 draw. The last inning was tense, with Badges having to bat last, but a brave pitching display from Tatum White shut them down in a nail-biting finish.”

• u-15: Benoni Dakota lost to Edenvale Imps 18-7

• u-18: Benoni Braves beat Alex Badges 14-8

The weekend also saw the woman’s baseball, A League of their Own, where the All Star Comets best the Blue Sox Bombers with a final score of 12-11.

“Overall, the day was a great success as we saw 30 teams in age groups from juniors to senior’s battle it out for victory,” said White.

“The weather turned out to be perfect and the food and beverage facilities were kept busy through the day, keeping our spectators and players fed and hydrated during the scorcher.

“It is great to see development clubs, such as Palm Ridge and Alex, display some really good talent on the fields, it makes for really exciting and competitive games.

“Junior ball is growing again and we hope to expand our fan base and look forward to hosting a few more fixtures in the coming weeks.”
