Van Velzen scores his Sunshine card

Van Velzen attended Farrarmere Primary and Woodlands International College,

Ryan van Velzen (20) of Farrarmere recently received his Sunshine Tour pro card after finishing fourth in the Big Easy Tour Order of Merits.

He will play in the Sunshine Tour for the 2022/23 season.

The Benoni Country Club member turned professional in April 2021 and immediately swung his club to victory in his first professional tournament on the Bushveld Tour.

Van Velzen won the two-day event at Parkview Golf Club on April 8 and 9, 2021, with rounds of 69 and 63.

The former junior Springbok also claimed two more victories on the Bushveld Tour.

He shot a par 64 to win at Ebotse Golf Club while shooting under par 65 to win at Glenvista Country Club.

Earlier in the season, he won on the Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour. He carded 13-under par at Services Golf Club in Pretoria while also carding 16 under to clinch victory at the Pollak Park Golf Club.

Van Velzen shot 68, 70 and 65 in the last Big Easy Tour tournament of 2021at the Centurion Country Club – finishing tied fifth.

Van Velzen is a product of Farrarmere Primary and Woodlands International College. He was homeschooled from Grade 10 to 12.
