Bedfordview too strong for Spurs
Leander Lubbe of Bedfordview topped the scoring charts with 50 runs.
The Actonville Spurs first team could not withstand the strong pace attack of Bedfordview Cricket Club as they were dismissed for 119 all out in the Eastern Cricket T20 League on January 29 at Lords Cricket Ground, Actonville. Chasing a target of 180, Actonville started their innings poorly as openers Yash Mehta and Zubair Turkey were dismissed early.
Mohamed Ali Sufi was bowled out by a rocket that rattled the stumps in the sixth over from the bowling of Arslan Ali to leave the score at 29-3.
Ahamed Mohamed followed Ali Sufi to the change room as Adil Javed bowled him out for 22 runs in the ninth over. Irfan Hanslot couldn’t stay long at the crease as his attempt to get one over the boundary was caught by Dehan Fourie from Bongi Hlatshwayo’s ball in the 10th over to leave Spurs in trouble at 61-5. The Bedfordview attack worked through the Actonville middle order with ease as only Sabelo Mabanga and Abid Turkey were the only batsmen to pose a real challenge. However, they were dismissed for 30 and 27 runs, respectively.
Jason van Dyk worked through the tailenders without much effort to help his team bowl out Actonville 119 all out.
Sent in to bat first, Bedfordview piled on the runs from the onset as they scored 31 runs from the first two overs. Actonville bowlers Martin Khumalo and Mabanga were expensive in their opening spells as they leaked 20 and 11 runs, respectively. It was the bowling of Irfan Hanslot that stopped the Bedfordview openers from building a strong partnership as Jason van Dyk edged one to the keeper in the fourth over to leave the score at 48-1. Van Dyk was out for 15 from seven balls.
Rameez Zafar followed Van Dyk to the dugout in the fifth over as he was bowled by Zubair Turkey. He was out for 39 runs. Hanslot was at it again, this time trapping Dehan Fourie LBW in the 10th over.
The Actonville fielding left a lot to be desired as Leander Lubbe and Amir Malik found gaps through the field and the pair’s quick running in between the wickets took the score to 164-3 before Lubbe was bowled out by Khumalo in the 19th over. Mahlangu took the wickets of Malik and Clayton August in the last over. Bedfordview finished their innings 179-6, leaving Actonville with a target of 180 to win.
