Sports forum needs help to fix sport facilities
The youth participated in sport activities to commemorate June 16
Despite the poor conditions of the sporting facility at Rakele Grounds in Watville, the Wattville-Actonville Sports Forum organised a sports day at the sports ground to celebrate Youth Day on June 16.
Over 200 young people from the area participated in netball, soccer, baseball five, chess and darts.
The organiser of the event, Sibusiso Mazibuko, said: “As a forum, we would like to see young people achieve in sports but now due to the poor facilities they can’t because no one is willing to help.
“Our children are lost, there are no facilities for them to use, which then leads them to crime and drugs,” said Mazibuko.
Mazibuko said he is trying to revive the community, hence, he organised the event to teach young people about what June 16 means through sports.
President of Ekurhuleni Region D Sports Confederation, Parks Ndinga, mentioned that sport serves as a connection between different nations and communities.
“Sporting activities should not happen only on June 16 because it’s one of the things that can help keep the youth busy,” said Ndinga.
Ndinga added that playing sports can play a vital role in an upbringing of a person.
