NWS karatekas off to Commonwealth Games after good showing at Arnold Classic

Kayleen Chetty won a gold medal in kumite while Aiden Corregedor achieved a bronze in kumite. Senpai Luke Scrase won a bronze in kata.

The New World Shotokan (NWS) dojo karatekas Kayleen Chetty and Aiden Corregedor have been selected to represent South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, in July and August.

This comes after both karatekas scooped medals at the Arnold Classic competition held at Ruimsig Stadium from June 3 to 5.

Kayleen won a gold medal in kumite while Aiden achieved a bronze in kumite.

Instructor sensei Takis Chaniotakos said the NWS was proud of Kayleen and Aiden and wished them the best of luck.

The dojo’s senpai Luke Scrase won a bronze medal in kata at the competition.
