#Comrades 2023: City of Ekurhuleni team ready to go

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Sivuyile Ngodwana, sent well wishes to the 35 City of Ekurhuleni Athletic Club runners participating in the 96th Comrades Marathon on June 11.

At the send-off function, Ngodwana encouraged the team to make Ekurhuleni proud in the 87.7km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

“You are already the pride of this city, and finishing the race and bringing back the medals will be the cherry on top.”

Acting City Manager Thokozani Maseko echoed Ngodwana’s sentiments and encouraged more female athletes to join the team.

“We (city management) firmly believe a healthy body harbours a healthy mind. Therefore, your dedication motivates us to take to the streets and follow suit,” he emphasised.

Dignitaries from the city, including the MMCs, indicated their support for the 35 employees participating in the ultramarathon.

2023 marks the 11th year the Ekurhuleni Athletics Club will participate in the ultimate human race.
