Despite cloudy skies, the stands are full as locals and youth have come out in numbers for the 2026 St John’s College basketball tournament, in support of their favourite teams.

Local and international teams are expected to put their best feet forward, bringing their A-game to today’s qualifiers for the quarter-finals.

Beyond the court-side action, the event promises entertainment for the entire family, with food vendors providing plenty to eat and drink, as well as a bar open until 18:00.

Rota Ramuvhundus, one of the attendees, said she was looking forward to seeing King Edward School (KES) win the tournament. “I am rooting for KES to win.”

Julia Youens and Kiara Govindasamy, more attendees, were rooting for Hilton College to win.

Earlier in the day, St John’s College U19 won 42–40 against St Albans College U19.

Other games that will still be played include St David’s Inanda vs St Albans College at 15:00, and the U19 semi-finals featuring Northwood School vs St John’s College at 16:00.

However, a lightning strike has just been announced, leading to teams and spectators taking cover. The games will be postponed until further notice.
