Joint police operation a success
16 illegal immigrants were arrested and 13 were arrested for dealing in and possession of drugs.
A total of 1 437 people, 697 vehicles and 20 premises were searched in the joint Operation Okae Molao, between the Crystal Park and Thembisa police precincts, on October 6.
According to Captain Ben Mutimulane, these searches resulted in the arrest of 28 suspects, 16 of whom are illegal immigrants, 13 for dealing and possession of drugs.
Furthermore, six unlicensed liquor outlets were closed and five hotspots were visited in both areas resulting in the issue of R50 000 fines.

“The two precincts were properly saturated with enough police manpower to let any criminal element know that their room to manoeuvre has been all but squashed.
“While the police were out asserting the authority of the state, the police’s social crime prevention was simultaneously out on awareness campaigns, distributing papers and talking to the community on crime-related matters,” Mutimulane said.
The operations were led by the acting Ekurhuleni district commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela in Crystal Park and Ivory Park SAPS station commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo in Thembisa.
