Rookie runner’s Night Race experience a winner
“I'm not a member of Benoni Northerns but I felt like one of the family that night."
The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club’s Night Race 5km on October 26 was a first for Brentwood Park resident Taryn Keys, who was so thrilled with her achievement and the organisation and spirit of the race that she thinks the running bug may have bitten!
“I completed the 5km in just over 40 minutes and am very proud, considering it was my first 5km run ever and it was a night race. Boy, did I feel it the next couple of days!” the novice runner said.
“What a great race it was. From start to finish the Benoni spirit was palpable. To every marshal that cheered us on and guided runners on the route to the CPF controlling traffic and making us feel super safe, it was an unbelievable experience.
“I’m not a member of Benoni Northerns but I felt like one of the family that night, being cheered on right to the finish line. Receiving a medal was the cherry on the cake.
“Thanks, Benoni Northerns, for such an exciting event.
“I had been using a treadmill for exercise every day before I saw the race pop up on Facebook and thought ‘why not?’ I believe I can do a 10km next!”
