Indians clean up at season finale
This is the first time the club has won the league and cup in three age groups in the same season.
The Benoni Indians ran riot at the Gauteng Province Baseball Council (GPBC)’s season finale at the club’s diamonds on March 25.
The Indians dominated in all the junior leagues and cup competitions, winning the U10, U12 and U15 league and cup trophies.

The U10 Cherokees defeated the Edenvale Imps 36-12 in the cup final while the Chinooks won the plate cup after beating cross-town rivals the Boksburg Cardinals 18-15 in a nail-biting final.
The Cheyenne won the U12 league that they fought bravely for against neighbours, the Cardinals.
They also claimed the cup final after battering the Cardinals 12-0 in a one-sided match for a clean sweep.

The Mohawks fought bravely in their match against the Pretoria Acadeo, beating the capital city side 8-5 in their final.
Mohawks clever game plan kept ahead from the first inning and they managed to bring home the cup,” said Indians juniors’ chairperson Clifford White.
The club’s Adi Erasmus was named the U10 player of the season by the GPBC and Tatum White was the MVP in the U12 division.

The U15 players Caelum Stroberg and Liam Pieterse received the best pitcher and batter awards, respectively.
Stroberg was also named the U15 most valuable player (MVP) while Joshua Botha won the U18 MVP award.
“It’s the first time in recent history where the Benoni Indians have taken the leagues and cups in three age groups in the same season,” said White.
