CGA second at nationals

The team secured 58 medals, with 26 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) secured a second-place finish at the National Youth and Junior (U16/U18/U20) Championships held in Pietermaritzburg last week.

The team secured 58 medals, with 26 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze.

Among the best performers was Johannes Morepe, who claimed two gold medals by winning the men’s U20 1 500m and 3 000m events.

The CGA dominated the 3 000m podium, with Corn de Fouw taking the silver and Jayde Roslee settling for the bronze medal.

Roslee also doubled up with a gold medal in the 5 000m event, taking home two national medals for the province.

In the field events, JL van Rensburg delivered a great throw of a distance of 18.97m in the men’s U20 shotput event.

In the women’s U20 triple jump, Lu-Rika Herlberg delivered an exciting jump which landed the province another gold medal.

CGA president Steven Khanyile, who was at the championships watching the athletes fly the provincial flag, congratulated the medal winners and athletes who participated in the competition.

He also thanked all the coaches, parents and team management for their support.
