Lythe wins ASA young athlete of the year award

He won the 400m at the world U20 championships in Colombia last year.

Brentwood Park resident Lythe Pillay is the Athletics South Africa’s U20 male athlete of the year.

He was named at the association’s gala dinner held at Thaba Eco Resort on January 27.

This comes on the back of a stellar 2022 for the former Arbor Primary School learner where he won a gold medal in the 400m one-lap dash at the World Athletics U20 Championship in Colombia in August.

Benonian Lythe Pillay was awarded the junior athlete of the year award at the Central Gauteng Athletics awards (CGA) at Monte Casino on November 13. The 19-year-old Arbor Primary School alumni enjoyed an exceptional season on the national and international circuits in the men’s 400m. The Olympian received the junior male of the year award at the Central Gauteng Athletics’ end-of-year function. He was also the University of Johannesburg’s young athlete of the year last year.

Versatile field events athlete Mine de Klerk was named female U20 athlete of the year.
