Bilson claims first-prize at Emperors Classic

The women and men's elite races were won by Lize-Ann Louw and Gustav Basson while Bilson won the women's veterans 30+ category.

Morganridge resident Jaclyn Bilson won the first wheel in the women’s veterans’ over-30 98km race at the 14th Emperors Palace Classic on March 26.

In a field packed with 12 talented riders, Bilson clocked 02:36:05 to claim first place. She was followed in second place by Linda Fouchè while Anet Coetzee completed the podium with a third-place finish.

Benoni’s Mark Stroud also claimed first place in the men’s grandmasters 98km race, cutting the ribbon in 02:18:35, finishing ahead of 96 other riders in the category. Roberto Gnudi from Midvaal finished in second place while Niall Pickersgill rounded off the top three.

Billed as the Race of Dreams, the event was attended by over 3 000 riders who participated in either the 98km, 48km, 98km e-bike or 48km e-bike.

Gustav Basson claimed the elite men’s race, clocking 02:10:56. Rohan du Plooy was second while Benoni’s Joshua van Wyk finished in third place.

The women’s elite race was won by Lize-Ann Louw who finished in 02:36:04. The second wheel went to Carmen Luckemeyer and Azulde Britz claimed the bronze.
