Suspects caught redhanded offloading hijacked truck in Brentwood Park

The truck was allegedly hijacked in Durban.

Seven suspects, aged between 24 and 45, were arrested in Van Wyk Road, Brentwood Park, on April 21 on charges of being in possession of a hijacked truck and stolen goods and bribery.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson, members of the unit’s Specialised Task Team in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies swooped on a warehouse following information that the truck was spotted in the area.

“The vehicle was allegedly hijacked in Newlands West, Durban, containing an estimated R700 000 worth of stock,” she said.

“Upon arrival at the warehouse, officers found five men off-loading stock from the vehicle.

“Further investigations established that the vehicle was indeed the hijacked truck and the suspects were arrested.”

While on scene an NP300 LDV with two male occupants approached and offered officers money in exchange for the release of the group of men.

Suspects were arrested at a warehouse in Brentwood Park.

“The suspects were also arrested and charged with bribery,” said Thepa.

“All seven suspects were detained at the Benoni Police Station and will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

“The recovered stock was handed over to the lawful owner while the vehicles were impounded.

“We expect that more arrests will follow.”
