Club thankful to donors and community for success of event

The event has triggered interest from parents and they now want to be part of the event in the future.

The East Athletic Club (EAC) has thanked the donors who helped the club to successfully host the Central Gauteng Athletic (CGA) fourth cross-country league meeting at Marivate Park in Daveyton on June 24.

The club had requested assistance to meet the requirements set by CGA for hosting clubs and is thankful for the help it received from locals.

“We are grateful to Renault Benoni and eAfrica Sport that came to the party. We also thank Karen Pitts who read about our plea in the Benoni City Times. Dr Dithomo Marule also assisted us because he wanted to see the event succeed,” said EAC secretary Monde Maduna.

The event was attended by hundreds of athletes from around the province.

The event attracted hundreds of runners while locals, including the Daveyton Hearts, came out in their numbers to support the EAC.

“It was well attended. Everything went accordingly. The community was taken by surprise because this event was hosted years ago at Sinaba Stadium. It has triggered interest from parents and they now want to be part of the event in the future.”

He added they were impressed with the work done by the City of Ekurhuleni to ensure the facility was ready for the event.

“We’d like to continue this partnership with the CoE as it benefits the community. The children were at the event the entire day and this keeps them away from the streets and mischief. We want to thank CGA for approving us to host the league.”
