Good times ahead for Benoni band

Life for the Benoni-based heavy metal Christian band, Forfeit Thee Untrue, has truly changed for the better since they signed with Kansas record label, Sanctus Gladius Records, earlier this year.

The record label approached the four members, Gideon “Gidz” Karsten (28), drummer and percussionist Craig Palmer (29), guitarists Mitch Pearson (18) and Sean Towsen (25) in November, last year, after they posted their song, Seven, on their Facebook page.

“The signing has certainly helped us reach a wider fan-base, both locally and internationally; some of our songs have even been selected for international compilation albums,” said Craig Palmer, drummer and percussionist.

Palmer added that, now the band can have their album printed and pressed more easily and faster than before, making it available to more people.

“We had to order a second batch of CDs for our debut album, Blood Soaked Splinter, for our South Africa audience, because the first batch was sold out.

“The first batch of albums did really well and all the CDs were booked and sold before the shipment reached the country in late April,” said Palmer.

Their music is sold both locally and internationally, on a CD and in digital format.

Although they are a South African band, their largest fan-base is in America.

“I think the honour and privilege has infused our general attitudes and approaches to our music, the general music scene (locally and abroad) our calling and our ministry, and God has just blessed us in ways we never could have imagined,” said Palmer.

Although the band is signed to an international record label, they spend most of their time in South Africa.

But if the opportunity arises for them to perform in the United States, they would certainly go.

The band has not been nominated or won any awards since their last interview with the City Times, in January.

“We are not in this for the money, awards, fame or fortune,” said Paqlmer.

“This is our calling and our ministry, even if we never get any awards, we are not going anywhere.

“We are all devout Christians, but when God’s plan unfolds like this and you get to be part of a story so great it just reaffirms your faith and brings you closer to Him, empowering us to stand bolder for Him,” he added.

The band is currently working on new material for their second album that will be released some time next year.
