Trick-or-treat

If there are no pumpkins in sight in supermarkets today, then it’s because they have all already been bought and carved out for Halloween.

Halloween is an annual celebration and is celebrated on October 31, in various countries around the world.

Today, people who celebrate Halloween engage in practices such as carving pumpkins (which are referred to as jack-o’lanterns), lighting bonfires, attending costume parties, playing pranks, watching scary movies and trick-or-treating, amongst others.

Whether you celebrate Halloween or not, you have probably heard people mentioning the phrase “trick-or-treat” before.

On Halloween, children traditionally go from house to house and ask people for sweets, or sometimes money, by saying “trick-or-treat”.

If the homeowner does not offer money or sweets, then the word “trick” implies that a mischievous act will be undertaken against the homeowner or his/her home.

So, if you get a little one in front of your gate tonight, think wisely before you answer.

Have a wonderful time if you are celebrating Halloween tonight, or this weekend.

Be careful before you answer to “trick-or-treat”.
