Simply Asia … to Thai for

Whether you are a longtime fan of Thai food or if you've recently been introduced to the wonderful aromas and flavours of lemongrass, coconut milk and, if desired, a bite of chilli, then all you need to do is visit Simply Asia Thai Food and Noodle Bar, at the Atlas Mall.

I was introduced to Thai food many years ago and welcome the recent arrival of Simply Asia so close to home.

Our starters were soups to warm the cockles of your heart and tease the tastebuds — Tom Kha Gai (a coconut milk-based chicken soup with tomatoes, mushrooms and coriander and Tom Yum Goong (a Thai favourite of prawns, mushrooms, tomato and chopped lemongrass mixed with Tom Yum, roasted chilli pastes, fish sauce coconut milk and lemon juice).

My selection for a main dish was Ped Phad Khew-Wan (tender roast duck in green curry, stir-fried with butternut, red pepper, brinjal, chilli and basil served with jasmine rice).

The duck was indeed lovely and tender and the mix of veges in the green curry sauce was just right to my taste.

I had it mild, but next time I think I’ll try medium.

Linguine Phad Tom Yum, or number 622 as my guest (a regular customer) called it, is prawns stir-fried with mushrooms, lemongrass, spring onions, onions, fresh garlic and tomato in roasted chilli and Tom Yum pastes with a stir fry sauce and a dash of lemon juice.

Both our meals were of the “swoon, lick the dish and spoon, thinking about next time when you would be able to eat more” variety.

Chilli lovers can have their dishes mild, medium, or fiery, and curries are yellow, green and red with chicken, beef, vegetarian or seafood or stir-fries … the variety makes choosing both a delight and a difficulty.

There is also a sushi menu for your sushi fix.

We shared a dessert of spring rolls with chocolate sauce and ice cream.

Simply Asia, which recently acquired a liquor licence, will be seeing a lot of me and my friends, whether for a sit-down meal or for takeaways.

Nothing quite matches the magic of Thai food for me and this outlet, with its friendly, efficient staff has it down to the last lick. HG
