Du Plessis wins Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s Golf Championship

Close on 50 players participated in the Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s Golf (ESWG) Championship, at the Lake Club Benoni, on Thursday, February 5.

Playing off a 10-handicap, Marie-Louise du Plessis, of Boksburg’s ERPM, scored a gross total of 82.

A worthy runner-up was Leslie Nienaber, of the Ebotse Links Club, with 83 in an extremely closely contested A-Division.

Robyn Currie, of the Lake Club Benoni, won the B- Division on a count-out from Connie Smith, from the Heidelberg Golf Club, on 34 points.

The championship was sponsored by Martie Becker, of Schaldor Plastics.

A-Division: 1 Marie-L du Plessis (82 gross – 72 nett) ERPM, 2 L Nienaber (83 gross – 69 nett) Ebotse Links.

B-Division: 1 R Currie (34 points) Lake Club Benoni, 2 C Smith (34 points) Heidelberg Golf Club.

50-59 A-Division: 1 S Baugh (71 nett) Benoni Country Club, 2 M Becker (74 nett) Lake Club Benoni.

60-69 A-Division: 1 M de Kock (74 nett) Benoni Country Club, 2 V Tredoux (75 nett) Lake Club Benoni.

50-59 B-Division: 1 L Lundie (32) Kempton Park Golf Club, 2 Linda van Greunen (32) ERPM.

60-69 B-Division: 1 J Hall (31) Benoni CC, 2 M Victor (30) Lake Club Benoni.

70+ Division: 1 S Grieve (33) ERPM, 2 Kara Lombard (30) Pollak Park.

The championship was followed by the ESWG annual general meeting and the committee members for 2015 are Veronica Tredoux (president/secretary), Janet Roets (Nigel Golf Club), Marie Victor (treasurer, Benoni Lake) and Donita Littleford (Benoni Lake). The outgoing committee members, Daphne Maynier, Val Bock, Marina Stoop and Margaret Reid, were thanked for their contributions.

The SA Senior Women’s Nationals will take place from May 17 to May 20, at the White River and Nelspruit Country Club, and a team of 10 golfers will represent Ekurhuleni.

The next Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s event will take place at Germiston Golf Club, on Thursday, March 5.
