Timo takes on St Dunstan’s
There is a saying, success is 10 per cent talent and 90 per cent hard work, but artist Timo ODV disagreed, saying his success came from 98 per cent hard work.
“I could not sing,” said the artist.
“My sister used to tell me to keep quiet when I sang.”
Timo spoke to the City Times and matric pupil Megan Watts from St Dunstan’s College on Tuesday, March 22, to share his journey so far in the music industry.
Watts conducted the interview with the singer, who will be performing at the Festival @ St Dunstan’s on May 7.
“I am excited to perform at the festival,” he said.
“It is always nice to perform for people who love music.”
Unlike most artists who always had a passion for making music, Timo just decided at the age of 21 to start singing and producing music.
Despite the negative feedback from record labels, friends and family during his attempt to sing, Timo refused to give up his desire to produce music.
Finally, after years of sending out his demos to various record labels, his hit single, Save Me, caught the attention of many South African radio stations and listeners last year.
“Now my sister enjoys my music,” he said.
“My family are a great structure of support towards my music career.”
Watts, who was completely smitten by the talented singer, also asked him about his favourite foods.
“I love smoked salmon and all kinds of cooked chicken,” he said.
His latest single, I Need You, releasing on April Fool’s Day, is a track that fans should eagerly look out for.
The Find My Way singer also dreams of collaborating one day with the band, The Weekend.
“Music is about relating your ideas to listeners,” Timo said.
Tickets are on sale at St Dunstan’s College, the Benoni City Times office, Wakaberry Oakfields (Northmead) and Harvey World Travel Benoni (Rynfield), during work hours on weekdays.
Other bands and DJs who will be performing on the day are Gangs of Ballet, DJ Voltrex, Moloi.Hesse Band, Chunda Munki, Johnny Apple, DJ Fresh, and Desmond and the Tutus.
