William de Beer, who lives in Nigel, is saving up to show 24 of his best designs to celebrities like Britney Spears, Adam Lambert, Jason Derulo and Nick Cannon. He said he needs about R110 000 to go, and he has managed to get some of the amount.

De Beer has also worked with local celebrities such as actresses Christel van den Bergh, Zetske van Pletzen, Reandi Grey and Reine Swart, and singers Nadia Herbst and Monique Steyn.

He designs outfits for glamour shoots and events.

He designed actor André Lotter’s outfit for last year’s Durban July.

De Beer said he can make a dress in two hours.

“When my friends need something to wear, we’ll sometimes sit in my studio, make coffee and I’ll make something for them,” he said.

He said he developed his passion for fashion design through his love of art.

“I never had art in school or anything but I did do things like art Olympiads and so on,” he said.

De Beer said it was a challenge to convert from art on paper than the practical side of making an outfit.

His studio is called Willet Design Couture and de Beer explained his mother was a fashion designer.

His mother was killed in a car accident in 1996.

Her name was Lizette de Beer and William combined their names for his studio.
