Don’t miss Sing for Joy concert

There will be guest performances by the St Dunstan’s College Choirs and the Benoni High School award-winning Pipe band.

The 17th Sing for Joy choral concert will be hosted by the St Dunstan’s Music Foundation on June 1 at the St Dunstan’s Cathedral in Woburn Avenue.

Having been staged first in 2003, this year sees Robert Strijdom and Japhta Luphuzi taking the roles of musical directors.

Japhta will be conducting and Robert has done many of the arrangements and will be playing the organ.

Chairperson of the Sing for Joy committee Jill Stirk said the diverse choir will bring about a different feeling to what is generally expected at the concerts.

“It has a different feeling and it is quite exciting,” said Jill.

“The choir comprises of members from all over the town and even the outer lying areas.

“This is about getting the community together from the choir to those who attend.”

Sing for Joy 2019 promises to be a most enjoyable concert with a choir of approximately 100 members singing some very beautiful sacred and secular numbers.

The music will evoke images of Egypt and includes some well-known pieces such as Verdi’s Slave Chorus and the theme song from the Prince of Egypt.
