Covid-19: 3 916 new cases and 159 deaths on 19 August
Recoveries now sit at 491 441, translating to an 82% recovery rate.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize reported that 3 916 new cases of Covid-19 had been identified on 19 August.
The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases sits at 596 060 with 12 423 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Gauteng still leads with the highest number of Covid-19 cases at 202 011 (33.9 per cent) followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 107 271 (18 per cent), Western Cape with 103 210 (17.3 per cent) and Eastern Cape with 84 362 (14.2 per cent).
Recoveries now sit at 491 441, translating to an 82 per cent recovery rate.
A further 159 Covid-19-related deaths were recorded on 19 August; 45 of which were from KwaZulu-Natal, 43 from Gauteng, 37 from Eastern Cape, 29 from Western Cape and five from Free State.
The Western Cape remains the province with the highest number of deaths, sitting at a total of 3 675, followed by Gauteng (3 061) and the Eastern Cape (2 670).
A total of 3 455 671 tests have been conducted so far, 56 per cent of which were conducted in the private sector.
