About Glenmore Primary

We celebrated our Golden Jubilee in 2011, a milestone in the history of the school and the community it serves.

Glenmore Primary School was established in 1961. In that year there was an enrolment of 77 learners and a staff of 6. Today Glenmore has a +-600 learner component and 50 staff members.

Glenmore Primary is a state school, subscribing to the principles and best practices code as stated by the South African Department of Education, and offering a range of academic, sporting and cultural facilities and services to its learners and their parents.

In its mission statement Glenmore Primary undertakes to provide a meaningful and well rounded education for the whole child and to be part of the process that creates responsible, respectful and reliable citizens. As it was at the founding of the school, it remains the motivation of all teaching at Glenmore, whether academic or extra mural .

Learners and staff have, over the years come and gone yet they leave their mark, not only by helping to preserve the culture and traditions that make Glenmore what it is, but by forging new and innovative approaches to learning and teaching. The school is the sum of all those who have passed through its doors.

School Facilities

Glenmore Primary’s teaching is augmented by facilities that have been developed and maintained with the assistance of school fees, fund raising and generous sponsorship.

The Foundation Phase has, in addition to classrooms, its own play ground, a covered verandah for outdoor teaching and art work.It also boasts two beautiful, fully equipped Grade R classrooms.

The recent building of three additional classrooms for the Intermediate Phase has provided facilities for  three units in each grade ensuring smaller numbers in each class.

The Media Centre/Library has five computers and controlled Internet access. The Computer Laboratory provides learners from Grade R to Grade 7 the opportunity to acquire IT skills that are essential to contemporary education.

The school has a large hall with a stage and stage lighting. A beautiful amphitheatre, set in an indigenous garden is used for outdoor teaching and performance arts. Swimming lessons constitute an important component of the summer physical education programme. Glenmore Primary has a well maintained pool and a fulltime swimming teacher.

A full sized outdoor Basketball court, Soccer field, Cricket nets and pitch provide venues for sports coaching and inter-school competition.

The school runs a shop with a range of uniform requirements. A tuck shop is open daily before school and at both recesses to provide learners with meals.

We also offer an Aftercare service. Please direct enquiries through the main office.
