Winter market treats for foodies

Durban foodies can indulge their tastebuds at two glorious winter markets this month.

DURBAN food lover’s are in for a double treat this month with two popular markets making a welcome return. Two glorious winter markets are coming up, Darryl Hofmann and his Wholefood team have put together two August markets, a morning good food and craft market in Glenwood’s Bulwer Park on Sunday, 4 June and a Whole Food Night Market at the Three City’s Docklands Hotel on Thursday, 8 August.

The monthly Food and Craft Glenwood Sunday morning market comes to Bulwer Park on Sunday, 4 August from 9am until 2pm. There will be a range of deli-items for an open air winter picnic brunch with German pastries, Indonesian food, koeksisters and bacon and egg rolls. There will be gift ideas, décor inspirations, arts and crafts on sale.

A host of fun activities will be available for youngsters. Busy Ballers will be doing ball skill activities for the young visitors; and the children’s play area is operational. For the children – there will be a jumping castle, cup cake icing and the animal menagerie.

The Wholefood Team is also delighted to be returning to one of Durban’s iconic spaces, the eclectic Three City’s Docklands Hotel in the heart of the Waterfront.

The Night Market continues the vision of Hofmann to offer a series of inspired community events in interesting places. The Night Market, which moves venue periodically, also helps Durbanites explore the city. They will host an open air, alfresco design and decor market as the winter sun sets from 5pm until 10pm.

With the beautiful crisp winter evenings, the decision was to take the market outdoors for a while to star gaze while browsing. The idea is to contain the market in the Three City’s Docklands Hotel’s charming courtyard. The range of products on display is evolving to focus on Durban’s top creatives and funky, cutting-edge design, handcrafted and bespoke items. The vendor mix will include lighting ideas, decor items, restoration services, furniture, fine artists, personal accessories and even a tattoo artist!

The Docklands restaurant will also be open for dinner while food and beverage stalls will be available offering gourmet burgers, flat breads and the best falafel in town. Three City’s Docklands Hotel can be found at the corner of Mahatma Gandhi and Browns Avenue. There is ample parking at Docklands, with additional security personnel on duty employed by the Market.
