Bollywood stars to grace awards

With only a week to the SAIFTA, excitement is brewing as Bollywood stars return to Durban for grand showcase at awards.

THE South Africa India Film and Television Awards SAIFTA stage is set to sizzle as over thirty Bollywood stars will jet in to Durban for the inaugural awards at the Durban ICC Arena on Friday 6 September.

With only a week until the inaugural SAIFTA, the backers of the event – The KZN Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, are billing the event as the social occasion of the year.

Big Bollwood names include Madhuri Dixit, cited as Bollywood’s best actress and dancer and Priyanka Chopra, acclaimed actress and former Miss World.

‘Dancing queen’, Madhuri Dixit, holds the record for the highest number of Best Actress Nominations (13) at Filmfare. In 2008 she was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award by the Government of India.

The two beauties will be performing alongside local dancers in vibrant cross-cultural sequences choreographed by renowned ‘Dance India Dance’ judge, Geeta Kapoor. Kapoor recently choreographed the opening of the Pepsi IPL 2013.

Dance will form a major part of the inaugural SAIFTA entertainment line-up. Gorgeous Bollywood actress and model, Elli Avram will dance with TV anchor, Manish Paul. They both starred in ‘Micky Virus,’ which was directed by Saurabh Varma and their performance will be integrated with the film on stage.

The popular Manish Paul has hosted Dance India Dance juniors on ZEE TV and currently hosts Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, which is the Indian version of Dancing With the Stars on Colours TV.

Amongst the stars walking the SAIFTA red carpet, Oscars-style, will be actor, film producer and former model, John Abraham, along with the who’s who of the film and television industry from both countries. Gorgeous actress Dia Mirza and filmmaker and TV host, Karan Johar will be hosting SAIFTA 2013. The South African performers include comedian and ‘Bollywood wannabe,’ Aaron MacIlroy as well as Durban diva, Karen van Pletsen and The Durban Gospel Choir.

A highlight of the evening will be a fashion show by David Tlale and Durban couturier, Haroun Hansrot. Hansrot’s SAIFTA collection will echo his signature elegance, sophistication and red-carpet look of the event.

Television actor, Amir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh, TV actress who starred in Kayamath and Dastaan on Zee TV, will also be giving a surprise performance in the SAIFTA Show.
