Marital wellbeing the focus of Marriage Week
Marital relationships come under the spotlight during South Africa's first national Marriage Week.
National Marriage Week is a world wide initiative that will take place in South Africa for the first time this year from 1-7 September. The campaign aims at promoting the sanctity of the institution and inspiring couples to focus on the wellbeing of their marriages.
Divorce statistics in South Africa are alarming with between 50 and 66% of all marriages ending in divorce. According to the 2010 statistics, 27% of marriages lasted between five and nine years and 20% lasted under five years. Going by these statistics, nearly half of marriages registered in that year lasted less then 10 years.
National Marriage Week is a joint initiative by INTIEM Magazine, ULSANIC, Intimacy4Us and the magazine I do, it is also supported by a number of South Africa’s most famous married personalities and government leaders.
“Failed marriages in South Africa is a national crises that must be urgently addressed because divorces have a direct impact on the well-being of our society. Crime, depression, unemployment and alcoholism are all consequences of broken families. In contrast to this; healthy marriages cultivate a youth with vision for the future,” says Annelize Steyn, editor of INTIEM Magazine.
During National Marriage Week, couples around the country will be encouraged to celebrate and foucs and nurture their marital relationship.
