Blue angels protect Point pre-school
A local preschool is now under the protection of NPO, Blue Security Angels .
ELWYN Court flats in the Point area is home to a humble pre-school selected as the most recent Blue Angels project.
The pre-school was set up in the basement of the Mahatma Gandhi Road block of flats in 1980. However, things have not been easy for principal Hajra Muhanned who says the basement was in such a state of disrepair that at one stage it did not even have a door that shut securely.
Fortunately the facility was recently renovated to provide an improved environment for the 45 children currently attending the pre-school. With the walls freshly painted, broken windows replaced and a security gate fitted, a proper security layer was still needed.
Blue Security key accounts manager, Quintin Bothma, assessed the pre-school to determine the type of alarm system that would best suit them. Secequip, suppliers of the Texecom range of products, generously donated the equipment that was required while Blue Security provided the technical expertise to install the alarm and will provide free monitoring and armed response going forward.
The Blue Angels Charitable Trust is a non-profit, Public Benefit Organisation that was established by Blue Security to assist victims of crime and organisations working with victims of crime. The trust identifies worthy organisations and engages with them to establish their immediate and long term needs and the ways in which the trust can contribute. Elwyn Court Pre-school was selected as a beneficiary because it is not only a place of education for the children living in the flats, but a haven for children from the surrounding areas as well.
“When parents drop their children off with me, it’s their lives I’m dealing with. If something were to happen to them I don’t know what I would do. Since the alarm has been installed we definitely feel safer,” said the grateful principal.
