
Suspect arrested
A Glenwood man secured his home before going to bed on Tuesday, 27 August and was woken at about 2.30am by noises from outside. He got up to investigate. When he looked through the window he saw an unknown black man in the property and immediately alerted his security company. On arrival they searched the property and noticed two men inside the laundry room., they confronted the suspects who fled down the road. The security officers gave chase and managed to catch one of the men..
“We were called to the scene and arrested him and opened a case of house breaking residential,” said Sergeant Beverley Manqele, Communications Officer at Umbilo SAPS said. The case is under investigation.
Police track down burglar
On Tuesday morning, 27 August at 7.45am, a woman locked her property int Ryde Avenue and left for work. “When she returned later that afternoon at about 4.30pm, she noticed that her home had been broken into and her TV, hair dryer, and clothes were missing. She reported the matter to police who opened the case and finger prints were taken,” said sergeant Beverley Manqele.
The case was investigated by Umbilo police detective branch. Two days later a 23-year-old man was arrested and linked to the crime. He subsequently appeared in the Durban magistrate court. The matter is still under investigation.
Security officer foils burglary
On Friday, 30 August at 2am on Mazisi Kunene Road, a security guard was patrolling a business premises when he noticed a man jumping over the fence into the property.
Sergeant Beverly Manqele of Umbilo SAPS said the guard saw the man go to the glass sliding door and start tampering with it. “The guard approached the suspect from behind and noticed that he was using a knife to break the door. The suspect ran away but the security officer gave chase and caught him,” said Manqele.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Umbilo police station, where a case was opened. The suspect was detained and charged for attempted house breaking. The case is under investigation.
