Support groups rally to help horror crash victims and driver
Local communities have come out in support of the victims of the horror crash on Thursday night on the M13 which killed 22, left scores injured and has left the traumatised young driver a broken man.
LOCAL communities have rallied in the wake of last week’s horror crash at the bottom of Field’s Hill in Pinetown when a runaway 18-wheeler smashed through a busy intersection killing 22 people and leaving scores injured.
It was reported the truck was on its way to Durban harbour when the tragedy happened.
Sanele Goodness May, the 23-year-old driver of the truck broke down and sobbed when he made his first court appearance at Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He has been charged with 22 counts of murder and negligent driving. The court case was postponed to Monday 16 September and his bail hearing will take place on Wednesday, 18 September. He is being held in custody at Pinetown Police Station until his next court appearance.
A Facebook Page, Sanele May Support Group, has been set up in support of the young man who is described as a humble, broken man. There has been overwhelming response to appeals for donations of clothing, food, counselling and legal aid with many people wishing him well.
The Support Field’s Hill Accident Fund has also been set up and will collect food to be made into food parcels and donated to the survivors of the horror crash. Details can be found on the facebook page.
