Baroque concert

Internationally acclaimed musician set to perform in Durban.

A special event in Baroque 2000’s current season is the collaboration with visiting Dutch Baroque violinist Antoinette Lohmann who will direct the Sunday, 22 September concert at the Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill.

The concert starts at 3pm. Lohmann, who has recorded extensively on CD, leads a programme featuring works to be played for the first time in Durban. There are four pieces by Heinrich Biber: the Sonatas nos 5 and 8, the Mystery Sonata no 1 for violin and continuo, and his Harmonia Artificiosa Ariosa for two violins. The other works are Johann Fux’s Turcaria and the Lamento sopra la morte di Ferdinando III by Johann Schmelzer.

This a rare opportunity to hear an internationally acclaimed Baroque performer. Tickets are R90 at the door and there is plenty of safe parking. Enquiries to sursouth@iafrica.com or 082 303 5241
