DA wins by-election

A by-election in Ward 33 on Wednesday saw the DA candidate, Ncole Graham win 92 per cent of the vote.

WARD 33 residents made their choices at the polling station on Wednesday when 92 per cent of them voted in the municipal by-election. Former ward councillor, Warwick Chapman left Durban for Cape Town leaving a vacancy in the ward. The DA’s public representative Nicole Graham was elected on Wednesday.

The by-election showed the DA gaining more ground in the ward compared to 2011. In that year the DA pulled 72 per cent of the vote, showing the party has grown by an additional 20 per cent in the ward.

The final results showed the DA won 3639 votes, the ANC 268 votes and the NFP 22 votes.

An elated Graham thanked all those who came out in their droves to support her and the party and vowed to serve the community to the best of her ability.

DA KZN Leader Sizwe Mchunu said the results of the by-election demonstrated a solid endorsement of the DA and he is confident that Graham will live up to the mandate expected of her.
