Cows do it for CHOC
Cyclists are encouraged to join the herd and raise funds for charity.
THE KZN Durban herd of COWS was officially launched at the Kloof Country Club recently. A warm and engaging presentation was given by the founding COW himself Cordi Van Niekerk who is Johannesburg based.
The COWS are a fundraising arm of CHOC – The Childhood Cancer Foundation SA. Founders of the COWS Kerrin and Grant Baines lost their toddler Jessica to cancer. It was their passion to make a difference that inspired the first Johannesburg herd of eight cyclists to ride the 94.7 cycle challenge.
From small beginnings the herd has grown to more than 350 people who participate in all major cycling and various other sporting events.
Through the endeavours of individuals who challenge themselves to do more, the COWS have raised in excess of R15 million since 2008. Their target for this year participating in both the 94.7 race and Amashova is R4-million.
All funds have been channelled to CHOC for various projects, from capital projects like refurbishing treatment centres that deal with childhood cancers and life threatening blood disorders in the public sector as well as building CHOC Houses.
The KZN Herd is now officia, and a number of COWS have been recruited to the herd.
The KZN/Durban COW herd is looking for more people who want to make a difference. The COW slogan is ‘Love Living Life’ and they are challenging all cyclists and anyone with a bicycle to sign up, ride the Amashova and raise some funds! You can ride the 40km, 65km or 106km Shova. If you’ve already entered Shova but would like to be part of the herd they’d love you to join them.
