Professional team to probe mall companies projects

An independent team appointed by the National Home Builders Registration Council is to investigate housing projects in which Gralio Precast and Woodglaze Trading are involved.

THE National Home Builders’ Registration Council’s (NHBRC) is to conduct and full investigation into all housing projects involving Gralio Precast and Woodlgaze Trading – companies linked to controversial businessman Jay Singh.

In a media statement on Thursday, eThekwini councillor, Zwakele Mncwango welcomed the announcement and said the independent team consisting of qualified professionals appointed by the NHBRC to look in the compliance and enrolment of the two companies’ projects must be allowed to conduct their investigations without any outside interference.

“This probe is a step in the right direction and I hope the eThekwini municipality follows suit by responding to the DA’s call to put a stop to all contracts linked to Singh and blacklisting them without delay even though the ANC majority refused to accept these recommendations at today’s finance and procurement sitting,” he said.

“The recent collapse of the Tongaat mall which resulted in two deaths and scores of other injuries was an unnecessary tragedy that must never happen again. It is in fact scandalous that it took the Mall’s collapse, and the national media attention it brought, before the authorities took action against Singh,” he said.
